Is our city investing in housing—or investing in a future without opportunity?
A major decision may soon be coming before our city council: a proposal that, as discussed in the council meeting, could put $10 million of taxpayer money toward the development of five apartment complexes over the next five years.
And I have serious concerns about it.
In my latest video, I explain why I believe our city needs to think beyond simply adding more housing. Where are the jobs? Where are the opportunities? Where is the economic development that will allow the people who already live here to build better lives?
More apartment buildings may provide additional places to live, but in my view, housing alone does not solve poverty. Without good-paying jobs, businesses, technology, and economic opportunities, we could simply be creating more places for people to struggle rather than creating a stronger community.
Instead, I believe we should be looking at investments that can generate thousands of jobs and long-term economic growth—including possibilities such as data centers, technology infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and other industries that can bring meaningful employment into our city.
This isn’t simply about apartments.
It’s about priorities.
How should millions of taxpayer dollars be invested? What will our city look like five, ten, or twenty years from now? And most importantly, what are we building for the people who already call this city home?
I share my thoughts, concerns, and alternative ideas in my latest video—and I encourage you to listen before making up your own mind.
